For the past three consecutive years, Dr. Michael Funk has been voted Best Veterinarian on Long Island. Care and compassion are just two words that embody Dr. Funk's work and patient interactions. Our owner and veterinarian, Dr. Mark Nunez, has also held the Best Veterinarian title in the past. Our doctors' skillfulness and dedication is appreciated and recognized by pets and people alike!
Dr. Mark Nunez, DVM
Dr. Nunez is a decorated US Air Force and Army veteran, originally from south Louisiana. He graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and has been practicing on Long Island ever since. His areas of professional interest include canine behavior, preventative medicine, dermatology, dentistry, obesity management, arthritis, and endocrinology. In 2007 Dr. Nunez started a canine behavior house call practice, The Balanced Canine. He also serves as a behavior consultant for several rescue groups, both local and nationwide. Dr. Nunez and his daughter Lauryn have a dog, Roxy, and a cat, Kelly. In his spare time he enjoys yoga and various forms of exercise, spending time with family and friends, the beach, and traveling.
Dr. Michael Funk, DVM
As a graduate of Michigan State University and winner of 'Best Veterinarian' on Long Island for the fourth consecutive year (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Dr. Michael Funk uses an excellent set of core values to balance progressive medicine with practicality. Following Hurricane Sandy, Dr. Funk organized a relief effort for the animals of Long Island by recognizing the medical needs of animals affected by the disaster, but also the irreplaceable bond shared between a person and their companion. By blending open and frequent communication with a strong base of knowledge and experience, Dr. Funk guarantees supreme medical care for your pets. Trained and certified to perform Zeuterin, an FDA-certified non-surgical sterilization method, Dr. Funk is able to offer an alternative to the traditional neutering procedure for certain dogs. He also has professional interest in neurology and seizure management, as well as surgery involving wound-repair. At home, Dr. Funk and his wife, Bernadette, have two canine family members, Sushi and Juno. When he is away from the hospital, you may find him on the softball field or hockey rink. An avid sports fan, Dr. Funk follows Michigan State football and basketball, New Jersey Devils hockey, and New York Mets baseball.
Dr. Sue Fischman, DVM
Dr. Fischman knew she wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 5 years old. She is a graduate of Cornell University and her areas of special interests are preventative medicine, geriatrics, animal welfare, and client education. She enjoys interacting with dedicated clients who appreciate their animals as much as she does. Dr. Fischman has always had a menagerie of pets, and currently shares her home with Gideon, a Doberman Pinscher, Snookie, a Chihuahua, Penni, a senior Dachshund, and 4 cats named Wallaby, Flan, Grizzly, and Devon. When not at the hospital, Dr. Fischman enjoys hiking with dogs, horseback riding, gardening, cooking, scuba diving, skiing, and martial arts. She also believes in giving back to the community and volunteers her time with several rescue organizations on Long Island.
Dr. Jennifer Sorowitz, VMD
Dr. Jennifer Sorowitz received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. A native New Yorker, she has practiced small animal medicine in Queens and Nassau. She enjoys internal medicine, especially the diagnoses and treatment of challenging cases, working with her teammates so that pets can remain healthy members of their families. She values client communication, whether it be putting owners at ease dealing with the stress of a pet's illness, or emphasizing the importance of client education and preventative medicine so that patients can live long, healthy lives. She lives in Queens with her husband and three cats, Dexter, Jax, and Tyrion.
Dr. Tomas Infernuso, DVM, ACVS (Board-Certified Surgeon)

Dr. Infernuso is highly trained and experienced in providing prompt and intensive management of patients with life-threatening conditions and those requiring extraordinary supportive care. Dr. Infernuso's caseload encompasses patients with a wide range of orthopedic, neurologic, oncologic, thoracic and soft tissue problems. He is available for surgery, consultations, assistance with difficult cases or when the use of specialized surgical equipment or techniques is required. Dr. Infernuso provides exceptional care to all pets through his commitment to science, technology and compassion.
Kristina C, Practice Manager
Kristina is Levittown's Hospital Manager and has been a member of the team since 2008. Currently studying at Suffolk County Community College, Kristina is motivated to earn certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. At Levittown, Kristina does a fantastic job in helping onboard and mentor new employees. In her spare time, she delights in going to the beach, savoring sushi at Yuzu Japanese Restaurant, and watching Step Brothers. Fond of being part of a large family, Kristina is one of four children. Growing up in a home with a variety of different pets, Kristina has a natural love for all animals. She is the mother of two canines, Bella, a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix, and Bernard, a Chihuahua-Italian Greyhound Mix. Can you believe Bernard can clap his paws?!
Krystal T, Licensed Veterinary Technician
In 2011, Krystal Torres graduated from the Veterinary Science Technology program at Suffolk County Community College and began practicing as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. With seven years of experience in the veterinary field, she most appreciates the adoration everyone at Levittown Animal Hospital shares for helping animals. Her favorite breed of dog is Shih Tzu and she even has one of her own, Chanelle. Krystal also benevolently rescued a Chihuahua named Coco and a Maine Coon mix named Jet. Aside from helping animals, Krystal enjoys shopping and going to the beach.
Makeda S, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Recently graduated from Suffolk County Community College, Makeda is practicing as a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Levittown Animal Hospital and is enthusiastic to strengthen her skills as a veterinary professional. New York born and raised, she finds fulfillment in keeping the pets of Levittown, NY, as well as surrounding areas, happy and healthy. For Makeda, working with such an experienced staff and interacting with countless different breeds and pets makes working at Levittown Animal Hospital very satisfying. At home, she cares for Anastasia and Madison Blue- her feline and canine best friends. Running, video games, and spending time with her hubby are a few of her favorite pastimes.
Alysha E, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Alysha is a 2002 graduate of Suffolk Community College and she is a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of New York. Highly compassionate for animals, Alysha has spent sixteen years helping and caring for animals in the veterinary field. She also lends a hand with Long Island Cares, an organization that feeds the hungry and their pets. Passionate about the animals she serves, she also participates in animal rights protests in New York City and Long Island. Alysha loves all things vegan and her all-time favorite place to grab a bite to eat is at Chipotle. She is also a huge fan of running, traveling and The Breakfast Club. After working with the great team at Levittown Animal Hospital, Alysha goes home to three feline friends: Liberty, Faith, and Tiffany.
Byron E, Veterinary Assistant
Byron is a Veterinary Assistant with expertise in small animal care. A graduate of Nassau BOCES, Byron has 25 years of experience working in the veterinary field. Driven to aid animals in need, he achieves gratification in guiding animals on the good road to recovery. Our veterinarians agree that Byron's greatest strength is the handling of fearful dogs, and his ability to put them at ease during their visits is unparalleled. His compassion for animals is undeniable as he also volunteers to help train rescue dogs. Kira, a Doberman Pinscher, is Byron's four-legged family member and favorite breed. His interest in dog training taught Kira to give her paws, spin, and bite on command! Outside of Levittown Animal Hospital, you may find Byron fishing, treating himself to Brisket or Red Lobster, and watching Old Yeller.
Russel M, Veterinary Assistant
With just over two years of experience, Russel McGrath is a Veterinary Assistant enthusiastic to learn and grow with the fun and upbeat staff at Levittown Animal Hospital. At his previous job, Russel volunteered with Forgotten Friends of Long Island. He shares a home with a Terrier mix named Ollie, a Pomeranian named Teddy, and a feline named Slinky. His canine family members know basic commands, but he trained Slinky to sit for treats! Left Coast Kitchen is Russel's recommended local cuisine and he takes pleasure in playing the bass guitar, hiking, and of course, animals.
Amanda R, Veterinary Assistant
Amanda works as a Veterinary Assistant at Levittown Animal Hospital and is concurrently pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Sustainability Studies at Stony Brook University. Relaxing with her canine companions, the great outdoors, and horseback riding are a few of Amanda's cherished hobbies. Compassionate for animals, Amanda has volunteered at local animal clinics since high school. She also volunteers at Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists, where she helps with specialty and emergency cases involving race horses and sport horses. Amanda has an insatiable craving for Mexican food and enjoys binge-watching I Love Lucy episodes. More than anything, Amanda finds the tail wags and purrs most rewarding.
Chris V, Veterinary Assistant
Working as a Veterinary Assistant, Chris is enthusiastic to be part of the team at Levittown Animal Hospital each day. With three years of experience in the veterinary field, he has found his niche assisting in the care of animals. Although he has an endless hunger for pancakes, Jake’s Steakhouse is his local cuisine of choice. Chris is the proud pet parent of a cat named Louie and an affectionate Pit bull, Bubba. Highly energetic with a craving for adventure, Chris enjoys boxing, Muay Thai, snowboarding, skateboarding, archery, and weight-lifting in his free time.
Nancy B, Front Office Team
Prior to joining the team at Levittown Animal Hospital, Nancy worked as a veterinary receptionist at Bide-a-Wee Animal Hospital in Wantagh for 22 years. Currently, she is working as a member of the front office team at Levittown Animal Hospital. After 30 years of experience in the veterinary field, Nancy most appreciates the relationships formed with clients and their pets. Beyond the hospital environment, Nancy is interested in Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation and is most at ease when she is reading or gardening. At the end of the day, Nancy treasures time spent with her family, her dog, Lady, and her three cats, Dori, Luna, and Scout.
Jenn S, Front Office Team
A native to Levittown, NY, Jenn worked as a kennel assistant prior to joining the front office team at Levittown Animal Hospital. In 2009, she graduated from the Veterinary Science program at Nassau BOCES. Later, she earned her Associates degree from Nassau Community College and is currently studying Psychology at S.U.N.Y. at Old Westbury. At the hospital, Jenn’s knowledge, professionalism and charisma extend far beyond her front office duties, and her warm rapport with clients stands out with every interaction. The great outdoors and physical exercise thrill Jen, while her canine companions, Roxy, Chester and Stella, and her three cats, bring her comfort and happiness.
Staci S, Front Office Team
Working as part of the front office team, Staci looks forward to helping the clients and pets of Levittown Animal Hospital each day. Staci has an undeniable soft spot for felines. When she is not volunteering at a local cat rescue, Staci is home with her feline family members-Tyler, Jessie, Jasper, Daisy, and Pebbles. In her free time, you may spot Staci at the movies, shopping, or indulging in a steak at Outback Steakhouse.
Scott S, Front Office Team
Scott, an Adelphi University graduate, takes pride in the friendly and welcoming atmosphere at Levittown Animal Hospital, making him a valued member of the front office team. A New York native, Scott savors Jade Palace food and has a constant craving for sushi. At home, he likes kicking back and watching Jurassic Park with his beloved Pug, Darth Vader. Scott also enjoys days at amusement parks, animation, and video games.
